![]() So this place definately caters to an older crowd. If you are in the area you MUST make a detour to the Cafe Old Vienna - you will not be disappointed. We also had dinner here on Thursday evening and I first thing I notice was the age of the dinners eating there? We are both in our late 40's but ever one else appeared to be above the 65 yr old mark. Meals are made to order but are worth it. He recommended reservations for dinner (and I would agree) a small number of tables, but I believe that adds to the freshness and authenticity of the experience. He and his wife have created a "little slice of Germany/Austria" in Myrtle Beach. We were lucky to chat with the owner/chef Werner Horvath and relayed our pleasure with the food, service and ambience. The four of us left no room for dessert but I can tell you the next time I will - from the coconut and carrot cakes to the apple strudel the dessert cabinet looked tempting. The others with me had: jager schnitzel with French fries and red cabbage (so tender and seasoned to perfection) a mixed plate of schnitzel and wurst with potato salad and sauerkraut (again prepared to perfection) and finally a Farmers schnitzel topped with a fried egg and served with spaetzle and red cabbage. better than I remembered and prepared fresh with spaetzle and a green salad. ![]() This dish was my staple in Germany and I have not been able to find it here in the states! I was NOT disappointed - IT WAS FABULOUS. ![]() From the moment you enter you are greeted by friendly staff and from there the dining experience continues to amaze! We started with beers that we loved in Germany - they even have Hefe-Weizen (a wheat based beer) and we perused the menu with excitement as we saw old favorites (including wurst platters, jager schnitzel with cream gravy and mushrooms, goulash and so much more - the special that day was the Ziguener schnitzel (smothered in a spicy peppers and onion gravy). Disappointed to find the recommended restaurant was closed we sought another option - who would have guessed that we would hit the jackpot! Café Old Vienna is in a very nondescript location at the corner of a strip mall - but don't be fooled by the exterior or the neighborhood! This restaurant feels like a small gasthaus in Germany. Having lived in Germany for 9 years our palettes were screaming for schnitzel, spaetzle, salad and red cabbage. While in Myrtle Beach shopping for golf apparel we had scoped out a restaurant that serves German/Austrian food. Bravo! So to all you golfers out there, after a good round of golf, or more importantly after a not so good round of golf, do yourself a favour and treat yourself to a meal you will not soon forget. We were able to meet the chef after our meal to give him our accolades. The owners (wife and husband) run the front and back of the house. But it delivers in spades where it counts, Service, Food and Price. No it's not in the flashiest location in Myrtle. This is a restaurant that takes a great deal of care and pride in how you are treated, and the food that you are served. With a doubt, this is the keeper restaurant of this years trip, and one of the top meals we have ever had in Myrtle. We had the house salad, my wife had the Chicken Schnitzel, served with potato salad, fresh cooked cranberries and warm red cabbage, I had the liver served with a large serving of cooked vegetables, and Spetzle, the liver was cooked in a great cream sauce. On a Thursday night we arrived shortly after 8pm and were warmly welcomed. ![]() This year the reviews on Tripadvisor brought us to the "Cafe Old Vienna". The large chain restaurants although sometime popular, rarely leave a lasting impression (positive one I mean). Each year we always look for the hidden gem restaurant that offers out standing food, service at a reasonable price. ![]() So first of all let me say my wife and I have been coming to Myrtle Beach for 10+ years. ![]()
